Ronald is in his twenty-first year of practice as an Attorney-at-Law. He graduated from the University of the West Indies Faculty of Law in Barbados in 1999 with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Honours Degree. He subsequently obtained his Legal Education Certificate in 2001 from the Norman Manley Law School. Prior to his law degree, Ronald attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree, with First Class Honours, from the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus.
He spent four years employed to the law firm of Myers Fletcher & Gordon, where he was elevated to the position of Senior Associate in the Commercial Department, with emphasis on corporate law, intellectual property, entertainment law, telecommunications law and commercial contracts.
In 2005 Ron was employed to Lime (Cable & Wireless Jamaica Limited) as Legal Advisor (Head of Department) in the Legal, Regulatory and Public Policy Division advising on all aspects of intellectual property, entertainment law, commercial and telecommunications law.
In March of 2008 he started his own Law Firm, Williams & Young with Co-Partner Ambassador Arthur Williams Jnr. In 2019 Ronald branched off into his own law firm, Young Law, through which he presently practices in the areas of intellectual property and entertainment law, corporate and business law, real estate and commercial and civil litigation.
Ronald has several years of experience in the entertainment industry. He has been involved in artiste development and event management and promotion since the age of seventeen, long before entering into legal studies.
As an entertainment lawyer, Ronald has advised numerous industry leaders including the Bob Marley Foundation; VP Records; Former Prime Minister The Right Honourable Edward Seaga; Reggae Sunsplash; Sportsmax; Headline Entertainment; Athlete Ricardo “Bibi” Gardner; The ATI weekend; Movie producer Jeremy Whittaker (“Destiny”); Dancehall artistes Popcaan, TOK, Busy Signal, Leftside, Lexxus; Singers Jah Cure, Richie Spice, Rootz Underground, Romain Virgo, Cecile, Chris Martin, Tammi Chynn and Naomi Cowan; Producers Shane Brown, Arif Cooper, ZJ Chrome, Code Red, Heart of Love, Clive Hunt, Donovan Germaine and Tommy Cowan; Soca Producers Jarrod Faria (“Differentology “We Ready”); Model Yendi Phillipps, fashion promoters Collection Moda and Author Trevor Rhone.
He has negotiated numerous contracts including involving Sean Paul, Vybz Kartel, Agent Sasco, and Major Lazer.
Ronald has served as a Commissioner at the Financial Services Commission (FSC), secretary of the Bar Associations Intellectual Property Law Committee, Deputy Chairman of the Jamaica Anti-Piracy Alliance (JAPA), Legal Advisor to the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) and the Jamaica Business Development Centre (JBDC).
Finally, Ronald is co-proprietor of the popular food, beverage and entertainment spot, Janga’s Soundbar & Grill on Belmont Road.
